Old sewer lines costing city thousands in repairs alone
This is how it happened: A North Utica tree rose over one of the city’s many aging sanitary sewer lines. As the tree grew older, its thirsty roots moved down until they found a crack in one of the line’s joints – which are spaced every four feet. Finally, the roots had so penetrated the line that a blockage was formed. Sewage backed up under Locust Drive.
